Racism and environmentalism both use the veneer of science to promote the personal prejudices and unverifiable beliefs of their proponents. In racism’s case it is the psuedo-science of eugenics, in the case of environmentalism it’s current favourite scientific veneer is the psuedo-science of climastrology, and it’s bastard child CAGW. Both of these ism’s are thouroughly misanthropic, and promote a utopian ideal of the future.
Racism posits that a given race of humans is superior to others and led to the thinking that the inferior races should be eliminated. Environmentalism posits that “nature” however it is defined is superior to humanity, and ultimately would be better off without us.
Both, if put into practice would result in untold suffering and death for millions of people. and of course with racism, it already has.
They both posit that they know the truth and have the answer, and are willing to use force to promote their world view.
That other great ism of the 20th century, Marxism/Communism incidentally had the worst environmental record of any system of government in the history of the world, except possibly the famed Easter landers. The Communists of the world did far more damage to the global environment than did the “free” world.
Communists/Socialists are currently attempting to put that all behind them, and paint on a layer of green over their red policies thus earning themselves the nickname of “Watermelons” in the “right” of centre world.
After the Berlin Wall fell, alot of people found themselves hanging onto a now apparently discredited ideology, and probably had quite a bit of free time on their hands.
Looking around them, they found that “capitalism” had managed to, contrary to their predictions, satisfy the material desires of the average person through, as I am sure they would put it, the “exploitation” of the proletariat. And surprise surprise, everyone seemed pretty happy! Even the ones who were now liberated from their socialst workers paradises where everyone was equal. What an ungrateful lot. But they could see it in everyones eyes, they were so unhappy, so alienated from their modern existence, so isolated from one another, enjoying their bread and circuses. They needed a new purpose, a new reason to look to the future, to show them how they could work together for the common good of humanity – submit their individuality to the collective, and lead truly fulfilled lives. They needed a new vehicle with which to convince the people of the evils of “capitalism”.
Enter the environmental movement.
I wonder if it is coincidental that you now hear many of environmentalists complaining about the need to do away democracy because of it’s inability to deal with the climate crisis, the urgency with which we need to overthrow the existing political and economic system with violence if necessary, the strange celebration of all things Chinese, the utter contempt for the fundamental right of free speech and the need for trials of climate criminals for treason against the planet, presumably ending in some kind of environmentaly friendly execution? (The NAZIs used the guillotine on many of their political opponents. Sounds pretty biodegradeable.)
As Ray Harvey noted, Adolf Hitler once said: “Basically, National Socialism and Marxism are the same”
Is it any wonder that these two movements have merged together so easily? Found a common purpose?
Sounds like a match made in Heaven, Gaia, whatever place godless commies go when the die.
More on this to come.
